Are we there yet?

We are but a few weeks back in to the new school year & I am already asking when the holidays are.

You know I'm not a big fan of the whole school routine.

It is exhaustipating.

I don't mind making the lunches- in fact I quite like coming up with yumminess for them & I find it kind of therapeutic standing at the bench getting the food ready.

It's the alarm clock I hate.

Like.....really really hate!

And I would really like to know why haven't we invented the 4 day work week yet?

Two day weekends are so not long enough...I mean come on!

I would really like to be doing way more of this....

I usually put the uniforms in the machine in a panic on Sunday night in a kind of 'Where did the weekend go?' type haze......

The whole routine thing & me are not friends.

I keep asking 'Are we there yet?'

Anyway I'm ready for a break & I am SUPER DOOPER excited to be heading with the family to Womad in a couple of weeks time.

So much fabulousness.

You know we love music......A LOT.

And this is a great family friendly music event.  Our lads are VERY VERY excited!

It will be a quick break but sometimes that is all you need to give you a bit of a pep in your step.

Are you exhaustipated already too?

GOURMET GIRLFRIEND'S BROCCOLI, PEA & DILL SOUP:
Some soups are the ultimate fast food.
This is one of them. It is so great to have quick soups when you feel tired. They are easy to make & give you a bit of an energy boost.
This recipe doesn't require long cooking times & can easily be made in one pot and blitzed with a stick mixer.
It is super tasty and is delicious served hot with good Sourdough bread & butter or as a chilled soup- like a Gazpacho.  If doing that serve it with some finely cubed cucumber on top as a garnish. Super yum.
Do you love Dill as much as me?
I LOVE it.....but I know it is one of those herbs that some people really don't like.
And I think it goes really well in this soup.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • 1 onion
  • 1 head of broccoli cut into florets (don't waste the stem- cut that up too!)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 bunch dill (set a little aside to garnish)
  • 1/2 packet frozen peas
  • sour cream
  • vegetable stock (about 2 cups)
  • 1 tblspoon Extra virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)
METHOD:
Heat a saucepan to medium heat and add the EVOO.
Add onion & garlic, fry till translucent.

Add broccoli & peas.

Add the vegetable stock till it just covers the veg.
Bring to the boil & turn down to a simmer for about 10 minutes or until broccoli is cooked through.

At this point add the bunch of dill & blitz with a stick mixer till liquidized.

Serve with a dollop of Sour Cream & some chopped dill.

I am really looking forward to seeing First Aid Kit at Womad.... this track is from their latest album:

  1. Feeling very excited about getting back to kindy and school after a week of the snots in our household. But I hear you on the whole school routine - being home sick was very liberating in so many ways. Have a fabulous time at Womad. I would love to see First Aid Kit live. It is almost enough to make me strap my boys into the car and drive across the Nullabor!

PS sorry I can't relate to the school routine thing being a non mum, but I hated it as a kid and hate organizing so I imagine it would be not my thing xo

  3. I spent an hour and a half trying the persuade the kiddos to homeschool this morning.
I am exhausted. They are exhausted.
It's not making any sense to our family.
And thanks for the recipe. I am filling it for when the broccolis flower.

  5. I hear you on the school routine thing, I am also a Sunday night washer of the uniforms, and sometimes they have to wear them with just a bit of a dusting off if I've forgotten to stick them in the machine! My boys don't really do early mornings, so we always have a mad rush to get out the door for buses, etc, and breakfast is just eaten on the run. Not the best way to start the day!
Lucky you going to Womad, I'm sure you'll all feel refreshed after the break. That soup looks so healthy and green, think I will give it a try very soon! Thanks and have a good day! :)

  7. The soup looks delicious and (as my mum would say ) really nourishing.
The whole early morning thing does me in. I'm not a morning person.
It's not too long now to the holidays - I may be counting :)
    Womad sounds fantastic. x

  9. Yum, loving this recipe. As for the routine, not a fan. I much prefer lazy mornings, pj days and making food with them rather than making lunches at the bench. And then there's the school uniform that needs to be ironed... ;) I'm already looking forward to school holidays.
Womad will be fabulous! I'd say enjoy but I know you and your beautiful boys will have a most wonderful time.
    xx

  10. I'm so with you on that! I don't like getting up in the morning, & I always leave washing the school uniforms until Sunday afternoon in a panic because I have forgotten about them again. Bring on school
    Holidays! The soup looks delish!

  11. Oh that soup looks so good! And yes, I'm with you too, I'm so over the old routine already. I've had enough of morning alarms, of school uniforms and homework. And I miss the chatter of my cherubs during the day. Roll on school hols I say! Oh and WOMAD! How fabulous!!
